What is a tsunami?.

A tsunami is  a group of waves that come one after the other,  generated in any ocean or other body of the water by a disturbance such as an earthquake a volcanic eruption or a meteorite impact. Undersea earthquakes, which typically occur at boundaries between Earth's tectonic plates, cause the water above to be moved up or down.

What can a tsunami do?.

A tsunami is a massive wave that can be really dangerous. Tsunamis can also unfortunately kill a lot of people, It destroys things that are in it’s path when it hits land and it can destroy city's, buildings, homes, shops, roads and lots more.

Tsunamis can reach up to a enormous height of 30m/100 feet. Tsunamis will happen most often on the Pacific Ocean ring of fire because of the active Pacific Rim from the undersea earthquake.

Tsunamis cause the water level and the ocean current to rise slowly and dangerous waves to follow the first tsunami wave, trapping people who return thinking the tsunami is over.  

Remember a tsunami is a series of waves that happens in any ocean.  It is really dangerous.

This is my week 4 technology. We made Braided bread and Turkish butter cookies.

On Wednesday me and my buddy Shilaine made Baklava and Greek phyllo desserts.

The phyllo pastry we made was quite difficult to make because we had to make shore it was thin as glad rap. But at least we tried our best and we got our job done.

This is my report writing about what happened in Christchurch during the second earthquake. My report writing includes an introduction,classification,description and a conclusion.

The second Earthquake in Christchurch.

On the 22nd of February 2011 at 12:51 pm during lunch time,  Christchurch was hit by a BIG!! 6.3 earthquake. It was centered 10km southeast of the city at a depth 5km. 185 people were killed  from the Christchurch earthquake,and 164 people were seriously injured. There was major widespread damage around the southeast of Christchurch.

The second earthquake caused more damage and reported deaths then the first earthquake in September 2010. A lot more aftershocks were felt and there was a lot of liquefaction covering the roads and sinking cars and buildings through the southeast of Christchurch.

Soil liquefaction describes a phenomenon whereby a saturated or partially saturated soil substantially loses strength and stiffness in response to an applied stress, usually earthquake shaking or other sudden change in stress condition, causing it to behave like a thick liquid.

The Earthquake damaged a lot of things.  Power lines, buildings, and roads and owners homes were damaged or badly broken from liquefaction and from the earthquake.  These damaged buildings laid around for many days and homeowners couldn’t get rid of it quickly enough to restore normal life.

Who helped cleaned up the city?.

People all around New Zealand helped clean up the city. There was around 800 people from the farm's army team who came with their farm machines and muscle to help clean up the city.  Teams of students helped to clean the liquefaction on the streets too..
